FAQ

how long is an appointment?

The initial consultation and treatment takes approximately one hour and subsequent treatments approximately 30 to 40 minutes. Treatment time may be shorter but the same appointment time is allocated.

what happens at the first visit?

When you arrive you will be given some paperwork to read through and a simple form to fill in. The osteopath will then take a thorough case history including details of your present problem, past problems, general health, and medical history. This is followed by an examination of your back and body’s mobility. Our findings will be discussed with you along with the most appropriate treatment approach and with your permission treatment will be given. Advice may be offered on exercises, posture and lifestyle changes to improve your condition. Please feel free to ask questions at any time.

Will I have to undress?

It is much easier to examine and treat if you are undressed down to your underwear. You can wear shorts. Most women wear bra and pants. A clinic gown is available too if requested. We want you to feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible, so if the thought of undressing is a problem for you please do discuss it with us.

How many treatments will I need?

Everyone is different with their own unique set of problems and history, so there is no magic number of treatments. We will be able to give you a better idea after the first consultation. Most people need 2 to 6 sessions. Many decide to have regular treatments to keep problems at bay and prevent them from recurring.

Will my insurance pay for treatment?

Many insurance companies will cover osteopathic treatment eg SimplyHealth. Sometimes they will require a doctor’s referral. Check your policy or ask your insurance company before you begin treatment. If there are any queries let us know and we will see if we can help.
